Bishop Gorman's Demetris Morant Commits To UNLV

Aug 30, 2011 11:14 AM

Demetris Morant, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Bishop Gorman, has verbally committed to UNLV.

"It's a great fit for me," Morant said Monday night. "I like the coaching staff, and their running style of play fits what I do. That's my strength, that and my athleticism and my defense. I'm still working on my offensive game, as well."

Morant said he chose the Rebels over San Diego State. He also was recruited by Arizona State, Memphis, Texas A&M and Nevada.

"Demetris had a lot of offers. He had quite a few options," Gorman coach Grant Rice said. "He's a real quiet kid, but he's starting to make some noise on the court. He's going to show a lot of people what he can do this year.

"He plays a lot bigger than 6-8 because he has a long wingspan and he jumps out of the gym. He will have a leadership role and be one of our top players."

Morant is teammates with Shabazz Muhammad, Rosco Allen and Ben Carter. He is the first of the group to commit to a college.

Devon Bookert Commits To Florida State

Aug 20, 2011 11:25 AM

Devon Bookert has committed to Florida State in the class of 2012.

Bookert, who is a native of Alaska, could have picked Cal or San Diego State.

"I was comfortable with them as people and I just felt like it was the best fit," Bookert told CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-3 point guard will spend this season at Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas.

"It’s a chance for me to get better and stronger," Bookert said. "I know I could play in college this year -- I’ve played against some of the best players in the country, but most of the kids have already been in summer school and I’d already be starting out behind."

San Diego State Lands LSU Transfer Garrett Green

Aug 8, 2011 8:43 AM

San Diego State has landed 6-foot-11 LSU transfer Garrett Green.

Green played three seasons at LSU and walked in graduation ceremonies there on Friday, meaning he can pursue a Master’s degree at SDSU and will not need to sit out a season.

Green will be the only legitimate center on the Aztecs' roster.

"I know last year was a great year," said Green. "I followed them. It was a great run. It was entertaining to watch. I met some of the guys, and they want to do it again. I want to be part of that."
